Successful composting depends on warmth, air and moisture. The Nature Flo composter establishes ideal composting conditions because:
  • Warmth is provided by natural radiation as the sun’s rays hit the black plastic walls of the chamber.
  • As the temperature of the chamber heats up during the day the fly screened perforations, in the chamber towards the base of the unit and in the lid, create a convection current allowing air to be drawn constantly into the composter and vented through the lid. This natural ventilation encourages the microbes to accelerate the composting process. The base of the chamber is also cut out allowing worms to enter and aerate the compost as they tunnel their way through the organic matter.
  • Moisture is made available as rain (or water from a watering can) passes through the perforations in the lid.

Once the chamber is full it should be left to compost for a period of time determined mainly by ambient temperature. We recommend purchasing 2 units so that whilst the first chamber is composting away any new material to be composted can be put in the second composter. By the time the second chamber is full the first will be well and truly composted and ready for reuse.

Sun Mar 400 Composter

SUN-MAR’s NEW Garden Composters incorporate the patented double drum Autoflow design. With Autoflow, material goes in the top and compost exits out the end as the drum rotates. As the drum rotates, compost moves along the outer drum and then back through the inner drum before dropping from the output port.

Assembly is easy!
Because so few pieces are used the SUN-MAR 400 can be assembled in 5 minutes.

SUN-MAR Garden Composter 400 is a continuous composter designed for composting kitchen scraps and cut up materials from a small garden.


 

Operation of the 400:

  •  Material is added to the 400 by sliding the input door open. To mix and aerate the compost, the 400 drum is rotated by turning a shaft on which a small gear bears directly against the gear teeth on the drum.
  •  Compost is removed by opening the output port, rotating the drum and allowing compost to fall from the inner drum into a bushel basket or other container.

Autoflow Technology on the SUN-MAR 400:
The diagram below shows how material moves into and along the outer drum. A scoop on the inner drum (not shown) collects material and pushes it along the inner drum, exiting through the output port.

Optional Rollers - The unit has optional rollers, which can be snapped into the cradle base to make it easier to move the unit when it is on a hard surface.
Sample Compost Swift - The 400 has a sample bottle of Compost Swift which you can use diluted by 8 to 1 to help get your composter going. If you like it, there is a large 1 litre bottle available.
Spare Parts - You are unlikely to need them but we are including 2 spare vent plugs and one spare drum cap in case you break one.
